Affordable Housing Policy Work
Help Us Pass Affordable Housing Policy!
To maintain and grow its stock of affordable housing, Atlanta needs policy action! Housing Justice League puts forward its Affordable Housing Policy Package to facilitate the preservation and growth of affordable housing in the city. The package includes six policies that address the housing crisis on multiple fronts. To make them a reality, we need action from city, county, and state lawmakers. In 2017, we released our report, “BeltLining: Gentrification, Broken Promises, and Hope on Atlanta's Southside.” The report revealed the role of the Atlanta BeltLine in the city’s rapid gentrification. Following the report, we launched our BeltLine for All campaign to call attention to the inequities the Beltline was creating. We knocked on hundreds of doors, held teach-ins, and talked to people directly on the BeltLine. After months of spreading the word and gathering support around the issue, it became clear that policy action was the necessary next step. It also became increasingly clear that the city as a whole needed policy action, not merely the BeltLine corridor.
Thus, building on the recommendations of our 2017 Report, we developed the Housing Justice League Affordable Housing Policy Package. The package includes affordable housing solutions that have proven successful throughout the country in combating gentrification, keeping people in their homes, and even adding affordable housing stock.
